Renting a convertible
Driving
a convertible car is a luxury many people cannot live without.
It's
so desirable, in fact, that some look into hiring one. Whether it’s
simply for the sheer thrill of it, to test drive a car with a view to
buying it or to cruise around in style on holiday, renting
convertibles is very much a la mode.
Whatever
your budget and taste, there’s likely to be a perfect car waiting
for you. The cost factor in general will differ greatly
depending on what make or model you’re after, how long you plan to
rent it for and where you want to pick it up from. Sometimes, even
your age will come into play.
Be
warned, though. To be able to hit the open road in, say, a Ferrari
F430 Spider is going to set you back a pretty penny. Somewhere in the
region of just over £4,100 a week, to be precise - providing you
hire it in England. Some will argue, of course, that it’s a small
price to pay to drive a car from one of the most iconic manufacturers
of all time - and one that’s capable of reaching 0-60mph in just
four seconds.
Sticking with the
car hire UK market,
getting behind the wheel of the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Spyder
for a week could set you back as much as £5,300 for seven days,
although if you book and pay in advance, that price can be slashed by
£700 - which just goes to highlight the savings you can make by
planning ahead and shopping around.
The Bentley GTC
comes in at around £3570 for the same rental period, with the
Porsche 911 Carrera 2S roughly £1000 cheaper.
There are options aplenty when you get down to the £1000-2000 a-week
bracket. If you fancy cruising around in a Jaguar XKR
Cabriolet for a week, then that’s available to pick up from
Manchester airport at a discounted price of £1,350 (accurate at time
of writing this article), with that fee rising by about £200 if you
opt to pay on the day. A Mercedes SLK 350 is roughly £1,200 if hired
in advance, while the Audi TT 2.0 S Roadster TFS and Audi TT 2.0
Roadster Quattro both come out at a fraction under £1,500 if booked
for a week block in advance to pick up at London City Airport. A
minimum age of 30 applies to the two Audi models and many of the
other motors, so always check before you get your heart set on one.
At the opposite end
of the scale, the Mazda MX-5, a popular convertible seen often on
British roads, is available at roughly £120 a day.
Changing the pick-up
destination could have a significant impact on the price. You can
drive away from Barcelona airport in a Mercedes SLK 200, for example,
and explore Spain to your heart’s content for a week for just over
£600. And for those people thinking of venturing a little further,
how about jumping into a Ford Mustang Convertible and heading down
Las Vegas Strip for about £25 a day?
To put all the UK
convertible car prices into some kind of context, a Mercedes E220 or
BMW 318 would set you back between £500 and £600 for a week, while
a Range Rover Sport Supercharfe HST 4x4 or Porsche Cayenne GTS 4x4
are slightly under £2000.
